Teaching basketball is only one part of a coach's responsibility. We also need to be prepared to respond appropriately if a player is injured, becomes unwell, or an emergency occurs during training.

Why this matters in youth sport
Basketball includes running, jumping, stopping, changing direction, physical contact and high-intensity full-court play. Most sessions are completed safely, but sport always carries some risk of injury or sudden illness.
Good safety management starts with prevention: appropriate training loads, warm-up, supervision, communication and awareness of a player's condition. It also requires coaches to be prepared when something unexpected happens.
Emergency response
Training for a life-threatening situation where normal breathing or circulation may be absent and immediate action is required.
Initial care
Training to assess and respond to injuries or illness until further medical assistance is available.
Prepared coaching
Safety is not separate from player development. It is part of running a responsible training environment.

Ongoing training, not a one-off certificate
CPR skills need to stay familiar and practical. For that reason, SHIN FITNESS has continued CPR renewal each year rather than treating it as a one-time qualification. First Aid training is also renewed in line with its required cycle.
This is one part of our wider responsibility to provide a structured, professionally managed environment for children and young athletes.
Player development is important. Player safety comes first.
Parents should be able to feel confident that their children are training in an environment where safety, preparation and professional responsibility are taken seriously.
Safe, structured and consistent basketball development
SHIN FITNESS combines basketball skill development, physical preparation, training habits and safety management for youth players on the Gold Coast.
